Working in association with Vigo IT Solutions, I was asked to redesign a website for Mersey Equipment. The brief from Graham at Mersey Equipment was simply to improve the overall look and feel of the existing site so I selected a really sharp and design-led theme.
Firstly, however, I created a new logo for Mersey Equipment. Their previous logo was a little outdated and not particularly memorable so I designed a simple, bold and effective text-based logo with a shadow effect to provide some interest. It’s a bit retro and I’m so pleased with it! This new logo is scalable, clear and will look great on print or web work. Graham was thrilled with it too – although I’m sure it’ll take a little getting used to.
So, onto the website…I integrated all of Graham’s content from the existing site to the new, with some tweaks due to Mersey Equipment’s new SEO campaign (which will work with social media, AdWords, Analytics amongst other elements to form the digital marketing strategy). The images looked a little dated on the previous site so I liaised with supplier contacts to gain access to more engaging photographs. On Graham’s new site, these feature on the slider (with a little magic from Photoshop, the now images look grainy and industrial) and along the top of Product pages as banners.
Below the slider sits some ‘Home Sections’ which simply highlight the categories of products Graham and the team provide to customers. The first letter of the category has been pulled out in the style of his new logo to feature as a symbol above the text.
Next comes a call to action – visit the trade counter – with a link to the ‘Contact’ page, which references all of the possible ways customers can get in touch with Graham and his crew!
Below this is a ‘Product Portfolio’ section, highlighting three products Graham wants to showcase to his customers. This will change periodically to display new and different products Mersey Equipment offers.
Under here is a banner of clickable manufacturer logos in a stylish grayscale. This really does cut a stylish look for the site. Rather than having a garish combination of colour palettes, the grayscale enables the website user to concentrate on the Mersey Equipment site whilst still taking in the industry-leader supplier logos.
Next, the latest tweet from Mersey Equipment is featured, along with a footer comprising of ‘Our Pages, ‘Contact’ and ‘Google Map’.
The other page of note is the ‘News’ page, which is where the latest developments in the industry, new products available and other stories will be available for website users to browse.
